The best activities for children in the Liskwartier

The Liskwartier is a neighbourhood that evokes memories of the past: beautiful buildings, cosy squares, lots of green and wonderfully quiet in many places. You could almost forget that you live in the middle of the city. A nice neighbourhood for your children to grow up in. When they have a day off, here are the five activities that you can’t miss.

Het Noorden playground

This large outdoor playground where your city kids can run wild is located on the Noorderkanaalweg. There are fast slides for the big children and the little ones can have fun in the sandpit or on the swings. Grab a newspaper or chair and enjoy the sun while the children are having fun. Fun events are organised regularly and the playground can also be rented for children’s birthdays.

The Liskids organisation shows that a cosy togetherness prevails in the Liskwartier. This residents’ organisation organises various events for children of all ages from the neighbourhood. For example, every year a spectacular party takes place on King’s Day, and craft workshops or theatre performances are also organised. Besides Liskids, the organisation Aagje also organises fun events in the neighbourhood where young and old are welcome.

Het Danskantoor

If you like dancing, you should take a look at the Danskantoor on the Vijverhofstraat. This hip dance school offers modern dance classes for tough boys and girls, toddler dance, classical ballet and lessons for adults. The lessons are given by real professionals from the dance world who carry out every step to perfection. It is also possible to organise children’s parties at Het Danskantoor.

Westerkaatje Noord

A popular place for foodies. At Westerkaatje Noord on the Benthuizerstraat you can buy the tastiest delicacies and you can also have an excellent breakfast or lunch with the whole family. It’s dangerous to go inside with an empty stomach, because everything is tempting. Do your standard Saturday shopping at the well-known supermarket next door and then let each family member choose something tasty at Westerkaatje Noord, a good way to start the weekend.

Studio De Bakkerij

At Studio de Bakkerij, a small theatre on the Bergweg, language is central and the entire programming runs in a playful way around language development. Amusing and instructive at the same time. As a parent, what’s not to like? The theatre has an intimate atmosphere and besides fun children’s performances they also do children’s parties, family discos, theatre workshops and more.
